LIVING YOGA

200 hour teacher training

This training is designed for those that long to dive deeper into yoga, to go beyond the limits of classes and workshops, to truly understand the power and potential of practice, the sacred tradition of yoga. The Living Yoga TT provides serious students and aspiring teachers with a deep, foundational and responsible understanding of yoga. Integral to this understanding is a realization that yoga is not simply a practice, it is a never-ending journey, a way of life. For many years, I have been so very inspired by the words of Aadil Palkhivala,

“True Yoga is not about the shape of your body but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; yoga is to be lived. Yoga doesn’t care about what you have been; yoga cares about the person you are becoming. Yoga is designed for a vast and profound purpose, and for it to be truly called yoga, its essence must be embodied.”

Palkhivala effortlessy and elegantly captures the essence of what yoga is all about.

Comprehensive, mindful and profoundly affirming, this training is an initiation into the healing and transformational power of our practice ~ a gateway to understanding the principles at play, the streams of ancient knowledge that inform, the science behind the art and technology of living yoga ~ the embodied essence of the teachings.

Living Yoga provides an aperture, a focus on the ancient practices of Kundalini, Hatha and Vinyasa as sourced from Tantric teachings. Asana, kriya, pranayama and meditation are illuminated with the light of ethics, the beginning path, sacred texts, western anatomy, subtle body anatomy, philosophy, sequencing and the art of both teaching and living yoga. This foundation reveals the ways in which yoga is a call to action, a call to social and environmental justice. Truly, the way of the tantric is to seek liberation in the world, not liberation from the world.

Living Yoga TT is dedicated to sharing the sacred practice of yoga in a responsible and committed way ~ through knowledge, understanding, sadhana, study, inspiration and service. Yoga is a yoking, a union: with breath, movement, body. In this union, the mind aligns to the wisdom of the heart and in this alignment ~ everything is possible. To be true to our practice is to hear the call to work on behalf of justice, equity and kindness for all beings. In this way, we embody the great and universal vows of yoga, we are living yoga.

~ This YTT has limited enrollment, in recognition of the magic, transmission and connection that can only happen in smaller and more intimate gatherings. There are 9 weekends that happen in person and 7 Thursday evenings with virtual attendance.

~ Living Yoga is primarily taught by Sierra Hollister, a deeply experienced and beloved teacher in the southeast. Sierra is joined by some of the most extraordinary teachers of our time, including Guru Ganesha Singh, Shyam Ranganathan, Kennae Miller, Cat Matlock and Jo-Jo Jackson.

300 Hour Training Modules

Earth as Body, Breath as Prayer

300 hour YTT

November 10-12, 2023 Asheville Yoga Center

Universe or Cosmos? The word ‘universe’ refers to everything that exists: time, space, matter and the laws that govern them while inferring chaos. The word ‘cosmos’ also refers to everything that exists and is considered (by astronomers) to be bigger (universes within the cosmos) yet implies a system of harmony and order, fully governed by natural laws.

The timeless and sacred teachings of yoga, of tantra, of ayurveda affirm that indeed, we dwell in a cosmos of exquisite design and infinite intelligence and our health, happiness and ultimate expression of well-being is found through alignment with the natural world.

This 300 hour YTT module is a week-end long experiential immersion into the five great Tattvas (elements of nature) as manifest on earth and in our bodies and pranayama, not only as a means of controlling and working with our breath, but also as the voice of soul, of living prayer.

Learning Objectives:

· The 5 great Tattvas, or pancha bhutas as the basic building blocks of the cosmos

· How to work with the pancha bhutas as manifest in the body through asana, kriya and flow

· The wisdom of pranayama and the expression of soul, through breath

· Foundational pranayama techniques for healing, health and well-being

· How to apply these teachings in your practice and life
